Independent Study

Independent study courses allow students to cover course material at their own pace and at time convenient to them rather than on a fixed schedule. This web page lists the courses Volker Gaul currently offers on an Independent Study basis. All course competencies correlate to those covered in similar courses taught on campus. Beginning courses include a final exam or final project that must be completed in the instructor's presence on the MSTC-Stevens Point campus.
To take and receive credit for these courses students:
- Select the appropriate course (ensure it is the Stevens Point offering).
- Register for the course at any MSTC campus or on-line.
- Purchase the appropriate book.
- Visit my office for a brief description of the course.
Students from other campuses can Email or phone me for updated instructions.
Important Note: Independent study classes are open entry - open exit meaning you can start the course any time during the semester and may complete the class after the semester ends. You'll have 8 weeks to complete each of the independent study classes you register for. However, I have a policy that requires you to submit at least the first tutorial assignment before the semester ends. If you do not submit at least one completed assignment before the end of the semester that the course is registered in, you will receive an "F" in the course.
Independent study classes for Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint 2007 are still available. The biggest challenge you'll face is finding the 2007 editions of the texts for these courses. The syllabus included in the independent study package includes the book ISBN number. Search for it on the Web.
